Come and help at North Norfolk Christian holiday centre
The Pleasaunce Holiday Centre in Overstrand is holding a work-party day on Saturday November 23 and would like as many people as possible to join in to help get the centre ship-shape. Tony Rothe reports.
The Christian Endeavour Holiday Centre, The Pleasaunce, is situated close to the beach in Overstrand, two miles south-east of Cromer. It is a Grade II* listed mansion, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Lord and Lady Battersea. The main house stands in 6 acres of walled grounds containing a chapel, cloisters, sunken and rose gardens and a clock tower. The grounds extend to the cliffs overlooking Overstrand’s sandy beach. Accommodating up to 80 guests, the Centre is an ideal destination for holidaymakers, conference groups, weekend/mid-week breaks, school parties and retreats.
The managers are appealing for volunteer help on Saturday November 23, either in the 5-acre garden or inside the historic house itself. Helpers are asked to bring some basic garden tools if they wish to work in the grounds.
You can come for half a day, the whole day or even just an hour. The morning session will run from 10am to 1pm, when soup and rolls will be provided. The afternoon session will be from 1.45pm to 4pm.
Jess Stubenboard, who is organising the day, said "We can't afford enough gardeners to keep the gardens as they used to. At its height the Pleasaunce employed 50 gardeners so you can see that some volunteer help is needed these days (although there are now only 5 acres, not 50!)".
Please let the organisers know if you can come. Phone Jess Stubenbord on 01263 578230, or Jillian/Evie on 01263 579212.
There will also be a Pleasaunce Christmas Open Afternoon from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday December 14.
