MattStoneOrdinationWebTrinity United Reformed Church, Norwich, was packed to overflowing with over 300 family and members of the seven United Reformed Churches in the Norwich area on August 7 for the Ordination and Induction of Rev Matthew Stone to the Norwich Area United Reformed Churches.

The service was also attended by the Sheriff of Norwich, the Mayor of Norwich and presided over by the Revd Paul Whittle, Moderator of the Eastern Synod of the United Reformed Churches, supported by other Church dignitaries and representatives of Westminster College, Cambridge, were Matt was recently trained.

Linda Meechan, Wroxham & Hoveton United Reformed Church said: “It was a very moving and uplifting service, with an address by the Revd Philip Turner of Christchurch Methodist United Reformed Church Hitchin, with whom Matt had worked during the past year. A joint choir from the seven churches led the congregation’s joyful and enthusiastic singing.

MattStoneOrdinationWeb2“Towards the end of the service I was honoured as the invited representative of all seven churches, to present a study bible to Matt. The bible donated by all seven churches was inscribed with Matt’s name and the date of his ordination to commemorate this very special occasion.

“It was a truly memorable event for Matt, his parents and brother and everybody else there which reflected the strength of the encouragement and warm support that exists for this young man as he begins his ministry among us,” said Linda.

Jane Grey, from Ipswich Road United Reformed Church, said: “It was a joyful occasion of uplifting singing, meaningful readings from Jeremiah and Colossians on the theme of being chosen and tolerance, love and forgiveness with one another. We are all looking forward to continuing the good feeling of God’s love that radiated from this service bringing the seven churches together”

A retiring collection of £770 was raised for the DEC Pakistan Flood Appeal.

After the service everyone enjoyed tea, sandwiches and cake contributed by members of the seven churches.
