Eight Easter highlights to enjoy at Norwich Cathedral

From the sublime sound of Norwich Cathedral Choir singing Bach’s St John Passion to Easter services and an egg hunt for all the family, there is lots to look forward to at Norwich Cathedral this Easter. Here are eight highlights:

J.S Bach St John Passion
Saturday 13 April, 7.30pm

Norwich Cathedral Choir performs Bach’s dramatic setting of the Passion according to St John, with Norwich Baroque and a cast of soloists.

Palm Sunday Procession and Service
Sunday 14 April, 10am

Join in with a special procession led by a donkey from the Forum to the Cathedral. The procession starts at 10am and will arrive at the Cathedral for the Palm Sunday Sung Eucharist at 10.30am.

Musical Meditations for Holy Week
Monday 15 April to Wednesday 17 April, 8pm

Enjoy a series of free musical meditations, with Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri performed on the Monday, Bach organ works performed on the Tuesday, and Victoria’s Tenebrae Responsories performed on the Wednesday.

A poetic journey into Holy Week
Monday 15 April to Friday 19 April

Priest, poet, musician and academic, the Revd Dr Malcolm Guite will be taking people on A Poetic Journey into Holy Week with a series of talks. He will preach at the 7pm Eucharists from April 15 to 18 and at a 1pm Reflections event on Good Friday.

At the Foot of the Cross
Friday 19 April, 11am

A chance for families to gather at the foot of the Cross and reflect with words, music and symbols on the events of Good Friday.

Easter Vigil
Saturday 20 April, 8.30pm

The first celebration of Easter as we gather around the Easter fire, light the Easter candle and celebrate the beginning of Easter with fanfares. 

Easter Sunday services
Sunday 21 April, 10.30am and 3.30pm

The Revd Canon Andy Bryant, Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care, will preach at the 10.30am Choral Eucharist and the Very Revd Jane Hedges, Dean of Norwich, will preach at the Festal Evensong of Easter Day.
Easter Monday Egg Trail
Monday 22 April, 1pm-5pm

Families can have fun following an Easter egg trail around the Cathedral on Easter Monday and those who complete the trail will be able to collect a chocolate egg from the Cathedral shop.
