Norfolk archdeacon runs for air ambulance
The Archdeacon of Lynn, the Ven John Ashe, is to lead a sponsored run to raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and Norfolk churches and is appealing for others to join him.
The run, which will be up to 10 miles, takes place in the beautiful grounds of Sennowe Park, near Guist in Norfolk on Easter Monday 25 April beginning at 11am.
The Archdeacon [pictured right] organised a similar run last year in support of the Air Ambulance which came to his wife's aid when she was involved in a life-threatening car accident. Shelagh has since made an excellent recovery. He and his supporters managed to raise over £11,800.
Everyone is invited to take part to walk or run their own distance (anything from 2 miles to 10 miles). Money raised will benefit two worthy local causes; half of the money raised will again go to the air ambulance and the other half will be credited to the Parish Share.
The work of the Diocese of Norwich is largely funded through the Parish Share system by which every church contributes to the cost. John hopes that this run will demonstrate what a good and important cause it is.
In 2009, John's wife Shelagh was involved in a serious road accident. Without the East Anglian Air Ambulance which brought a doctor to the roadside and air-lifted Shelagh to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, Shelagh would not be alive today.
The Air Ambulance is called out on life-saving missions four or five times each day. It is funded solely by voluntary donations and needs to find over £3 million each year.
John has already raised £1,600. If you would like to sponsor John, simply go to www.justgiving.com/Archdeacons-Charge-2011 and remember to write the name of your parish when you leave a comment.
