Shoppers give Thetford Foodbank a boost

ThetfordFoodbankLogo2012: Local Thetford shoppers donated a generous 1320.6 kg of food to Thetford Foodbank on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 June to help feed local people facing crisis.

Thetford Foodbank, an initiative of Thetford Christians Together, received a boost from shoppers last weekend. The small army of volunteers that gave their time to make the supermarket collection at Sainsburys in Thetford such a success received donations of 1320.6kg of food from members of the public.
The volunteer-run foodbank launched its service offering emergency food supplies to those in need on Christmas Eve last year and so far has provided 3 days worth of emergency food for 248 people - 168 adults and 80 children.
Clients in crisis are referred to the Foodbank via frontline professional care services. So far 5.24 tonnes of food has been donated by members of the public, school, churches and other charities, which will help feed men, women and children who will otherwise have to face going hungry.
Thetford Foodbank Manager, Ali James, said: ‘The Foodbank wants to say a big ‘thank you’ to all those who gave food or time on at our supermarket collection on 8th and 9th June. Giving a simple foodbox to a family or individual in crisis can make such a difference. Going to bed hungry is a reality for more people than we would like to think, and it is people like you who make this possible, thank you.
“All the food given out by Thetford Foodbank has been donated by the public, which makes collections like this so important. The Foodbank wouldn’t be able to run without public generosity."
Thetford Foodbank is currently seeking donations of basic toiletries and provisions such as toothpaste, 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, toilet rolls and washing powder.
