Supporters of the Christian charity, Hope into Action, are encouraging others to join them on an informal 5-day Prayer Walk in the Fens in early September, passing through Downham Market and Kings Lynn.
Sue Walker and Gail Halley, from Norwich, are organising an informal 5-day Prayer Walk in the Fens from Monday 10th September – Friday 14th September and are encouraging anyone who feels led to pray for the work of Christian charity, Hope into Action, to join them.
Hope into Action is a charity which partners with churches to provide much needed homes and professional support for some of the most marginalised people in society.
The charity has recently begun to expand its work into Norfolk and is seeking partner churches to join with them and invest in this important work. The relatively new charity has been operating successfully in Peterborough and Cambridge since 2010.
Sue Walker and Gail Halley are both senior citizens and describe themselves as ‘The Two Old Game Birds’. They each have a personal connection with the charity. Sue is the mother of Ed Walker, one of the founders and the Executive Director of Hope into Action and Gail is Ed’s Godmother.
The pair completed a sponsored walk last year for Hope into Action and discovered that they both loved walking together, and felt richly rewarded to be able to support the charity in this way.
Sue Walker said: “When we first heard what Ed was proposing we were really enthusiastic for the work and vision and have increasingly been amazed and humbled by how it has unfolded and taken off.”
“We believe that the vision of Hope into Action arose from prayer and it is prayer that will continue to sustain the vision as well as enable the work to grow.”
Sue and Gail would warmly welcome others to join them on the Prayer Walk either for a few hours or a whole day.
Gail Halley said: "'When we got to the end of our coastal walk last year, I wanted to go on walking forever, and I felt so well. So I can't wait to be off again, and hope some others will join us along the way. Feel free to bring your dogs!"
The walk will begin on Monday 10th September from Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire at 9am with a walk to Ely, to arrive in time to join in with the evening prayer in Ely Cathedral.
On Tuesday 11th, after morning prayer in the cathedral they will catch a train to Little Port, Cambridgeshire and walk to Downham Market in West Norfolk.
On Wednesday 12th the walk will be based in West Norfolk starting from Downham Market and ending in Kings Lynn.
On Thursday 13th walk from Kings Lynn to Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire.
Finally on Friday 14th the Prayer Walk will begin in Sutton Bridge and end in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
Sue said: “We will be praying as we walk. In the past we have walked in silence for an hour each praying about different aspects from the prayer letter Ed Walker will give us. Then we share our reflections with each other when we stop. We also hope to pray before we set out and then again sometime in the evening.”
If people cannot join the walk but would like to pray either with others, or alone during that week then please get in contact with Gail or Sue for a Hope into Action prayer letter.
