Thetford URC celebrates harvest amongst scarecrows

2012: Members of the United Reformed Church and Cloverfield Community Church celebrated harvest together amongst 20 straw stuffed scarecrows. The additional  'congregation' was provided by a number of local schools, brownies, community groups and the neighbouring funeral directors as part of Thetford URC's second annual Scarecrow Festival.

The festival began with the town's Raleigh Infant school attending a special harvest festival service amongst the scarecrows at the church. The festival then continued over the weekend with all 20 scarecrows on display, lunchtime musical entertainment provided by local choirs and musicians, and plenty of craft activities and competitions to add to the fun.

On Sunday the two congregations joined together to celebrate the church's harvest service before the scarecrow festival continued into the afternoon.

Scarecrow1Rev Julian Sanders of Thetford URC says "We have been really pleased at the response we have received from the schools and groups that have made the scarecrows. They are all so creative and varied and the children and the adults have a great deal of fun making them. It is great to have the children bringing their parents along to the church to show them the scarecrows they have created - and everyone seemed to have a really good time."
