The 19 person bell choir is based at the Central Presbyterian Church
, a western suburb of Philadelphia. Eight musically inclined people were recruited to form the first handbell choir in March 1975, when an anonymous donor gave the church a set of 25 handbells. Over the ensuing years, the choir has added bells to cover 6 octaves as well as 4 octaves of hand chimes.
This is the choir’s sixth trip to the UK since the original visit in 1986. In addition to enhancing church worship, the bell choir rings in nursing homes, schools and at community meetings and local malls in and around their local area.
The concert is part of a 4 day visit by the choir to West Norfolk
, during which time they will visit Sandringham and the North Norfolk coast as well as enjoying a barbecue and a traditional fish and chip supper. They will also be performing at Heacham Infant and Junior schools and taking part in a Praise Party
at St Mary’s
on Wednesday July 3
The handbell concert
itself is at St. Mary’s Church
