Shop boss to become Norwich church pastor

IanCurrieBecomesProclaimerPastA Norwich retail shop manager is set to leave the independent Dogfish clothes store to become a youth pastor at a growing Norwich church. Alaine Mukene reports.

After more than a decade with Dogfish, the ever-popular independent clothes shop in the Norwich Lanes, store manager Ian Currie is making a big career jump as he leaves to pursue a new role as a full-time Associate Pastor at Proclaimers church in Norwich.

Ian Currie is a familiar face in the city. He began working for Dogfish, based on Bedford Street, Norwich, in 2001, working his way up over the years to become store manager.

Meanwhile, for several years Ian has been involved with youth work at Proclaimers, as a volunteer. His new role will enable him to focus on increasing work with young people in Norwich. This directly supports Proclaimers’ commitment to providing opportunities for people of all ages, particularly young adults, to find faith and meaningful involvement in our thriving and growing community.

Lead Pastor, Tom Rawls said, “We are so excited that Ian has come on board to work with us. Norwich is a city full of creative young people in the high schools, local colleges, working in local businesses, and the 1000’s who study both at Norwich University of the Arts and the University of East Anglia - young people full of potential. As a church we are passionate about seeing the young people of Norwich be all they can and fulfilling their potential. Ian will be able to help build a great team to give these young people the encouragement, support and opportunities they need.”

Nick Snell, Co-Director of the Future Dog Group, said, “After 12 years of true and faithful commitment to his time with us at Dogfish we’re sad to say our goodbyes to Ian! He has been invaluable in his role as manager, and a wonderful friend too. We wish him all happiness in his new role, where we know his calling will be in fulfilment.”
