New CAP Centre to tackle Mid-Norfolk poverty

CAP2013: The Fountain of Life Church is partnering with Christians Against Poverty and other churches in Mid-Norfolk to open a CAP Debt Centre to be operational in March 2014.

The service will serve an area encompassing the towns of Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford, Watton and surrounding villages.

The aim of the Debt Centre is to reach families in Mid-Norfolk who are living with unmanageable debt and share God's love with them.  The Debt Centre Manager will work closely with debt caseworkers based at CAP’s headquarters in Bradford.  They will work together to help transform lives, giving people a hope for the future and supporting them through a process out of debt.

This ministry will be a team effort.  Trained volunteers from local churches will accompany the Centre Manager on client visits and support the clients in a variety of ways.

What they are looking for:

  • A Debt Centre Manager to work up to two days a week throughout the mid-Norfolk area, as necessary.  Training for this voluntary position is expected to take place in Bradford from 25th to 28th February 2014
  • Local Befrienders to accompany the Debt Manager on visits to clients providing a supportive role through the process and a link to a local church
  • Management Group members to oversee the project.  Individuals, church or church group representatives
  • People with expertise in other areas, eg. marketing, publicity etc.

Church leaders in Mid-Norfolk should have already received information about this project - if not please request a pack. All interested persons should contact Heather Nunn,, 01760 440837 or 07979 264047.

CAP is a national charity, working across the UK to lift people out of poverty and debt.  It offers free debt counselling through a network of centres (currently 230 and growing) based in local churches. The vision for a local Christian based Mid-Norfolk Debt Centre is an integral part of CAP’s vision to empower the local church to tackle poverty in their communities.  The overall aim is to see people set free from the destructive impact of unmanageable debt and regain control of their lives and finances.
