Pastor Sam settles in at Hunstanton church

Sam and Suzie Abramian 350The Union Church in Hunstanton welcomed a new minister during the summer. Sam Abramian and his wife Suzie moved to the town last summer, and they have been getting to know the people and area of North West Norfolk. Tony Rothe reports.

Sam and Suzie were living and working in Surrey after getting married nearly five years ago. However, eighteen months ago they sensed that God had a new adventure for them.
“Because of our love for Norfolk, having spent a lot of time here (as Suzie’s parents live in Sheringham), we explored possible new churches to minister in. We were delighted to accept the call to Union Church” explained Sam.
They finally moved to Hunstanton last August. The church, on Sandringham Road is a joint Baptist and United Reform church. They meet to worship on Sundays at 10.30am, and have a range of weekday activities.
“At this point we are still settling in and getting to know the church and town before looking at specific plans for the future. I have been taking time to meet with each person in the church individually, so I can get to know them and God’s work in their lives. And it has been a joy to meet these people and hear stories of what God has been doing.”
Alongside this they have also been getting to know the community. Suzie is a keen musician and has joined Hunstanton Concert Band. She has begun teaching flute and piano in a few local schools. Sam is a passionate footballer, and has joined Smithdon FC, a local Saturday football team.
“I reflected on John's vision in Revelation 21, of God bringing together the new heaven and earth, making everything new and living with people. I believe that Christians and churches are called to live in anticipation of this new creation, sharing the good news that God wants a relationship with people and is making things new through Jesus Christ” said Sam.

“As a result I believe there are some clear things God wants to do in our community. I believe He wants people to be in a passionate relationship with Him, and I also believe justice and beauty are part of his plan too. Exactly what this will look like we are yet to find out, but I’m sure He will reveal it a step at a time!”

“I hope that over the coming months we will begin to discern what God’s plan is for His kingdom in Hunstanton and draw this together into a vision that will guide us to fulfil His purposes.
