Development plans for Fakenham church

Fakenham Adrian Bell 380Improvements are planned at Fakenham Parish Church, and there will be a Grand Book and Jigsaw Fayre at the church on Saturday morning as part of the fund-raising campaign. Tony Rothe reports.

This second fund-raising event of the year (the first Book Fayre raised £645) will help pay for the first part of the development of the church, which will begins in the early summer. This work will include a new altar area, increased staging so that orchestras and choirs can be accommodated, and will create a disabled access to the Chancel. An application has been made to the Norwich Diocesan Advisory Council for Churches (DAC) to approve the work.
The Book and Jigsaw Fayre will run from 10am to 1pm on Saturday February 22 at the parish church itself. Thousands of books and hundreds of jigsaws will be on sale. Refreshments will be available all day.
Rev Adrian Bell, the Rector of Fakenham, has announced his resignation this week, in preparation for his retirement this summer. The occasion will be marked by two leaving services:
The first will be on Sunday June 22 at 10.30am, when the church celebrates its 650th year link with the Trinity College Cambridge, who are “Patrons of the Living” of Fakenham Church.  The other will be a week later on June 29 at 10.30am, when there will be a town service. It is hoped that the work on the development of the church will be completed before Rev Bell retires.
