Norwich church gets new name and network

AliveWebsite450City Church in Norwich is merging with a network of churches in Lincolnshire and relaunching itself as Alive Church on September 21.

Pastor Phil Thorne said: “We have been on an exciting journey of discussion and prayer over the last two years with Pastor Stuart Bell of New Life Lincoln concerning merging our churches as a multi-site church of what will be seven locations across Lincolnshire and Norfolk.

“We are excited about the launch, which will be a special day with Stuart Bell (Senior Pastor – Alive Church and Ground Level Network leader) speaking at our Sunday morning 10.30am service and Steve Campbell (Senior Pastor – Cambridge Community Church and The Journey Network Leader) at our special Alive at 5:45pm service.”

Alive Church in Norwich joins with churches in with Wymondham, Lincoln, Hykeham, Scunthorpe, Grantham and Metheringham to create a church of over 1500 people with a vision to establish many more.

Phil said: “We are excited with a fresh focus in impacting our city, region and nation. Alive Norwich is focused on being a dynamic, contemporary church full of people with a passion to see our city and beyond transformed by encountering our life-changing God. This is who we are: hope-carriers, generous givers, celebrators of people, passionate team players creating a culture of honour and devoted to the cause of Jesus. We are: all generations pulling together in the same direction to strongly influence the environment around us, impacting our doorstep world.”

Phil and Johanna Thorne, lead pastors of City Church, have led the church since its inception with a group of seven people back in February 1985. City Church has been multisite with campuses in Norwich, Wymondham and Great Yarmouth (Great Yarmouth was released 2012) with a desire where possible to enable people to worship locationally and with a passion to reach the region.
