YMCA Norfolk bike project on Brilliant Britain

When the Brilliant Britain video team headed to Norfolk to discover some brilliant charity projects, one of their stops was at YMCA Norfolk’s Life Ready project in Great Yarmouth.

The team from the national Community Channel, filmed Life Ready Team Leader, Heidi Garwood, talking about the bike project which is supported by Life Ready and funded through the Community Development Foundation.
 
It also features former YMCA resident Dale Starbuck who has been helped to move forward by his time at the YMCA and the bike project in particular. Dale is now a peer mentor with the project helping others to benefit from the skills they can learn.
 
Simon Elliot, manager of Great Yarmouth Bike Project, explains how the project teaches young people how to dismantle bikes and then rebuild them for their own use of for use by others at the YMCA.
 
Funded by the Big Lottery, Life Ready is a five-year project to support young people towards independent living and help break the cycle of homelessness in Great Yarmouth.
 
The YMCA project is part of Episode 16 of Brilliant Britain will be broadcast on Freeview and online at the following times:

  • Friday 12th Dec 5pm
  • Saturday December 13, 6pm
  • Sunday December 14, 9pm
  • Monday December 15, 7am
  • Friday December 19, 5pm
  • Saturday December 20, 6am
