Norwich gospel concert raises over £1,000

GospelChoirCF
A gospel concert on November 21 raised over £1,000 for Christian Aid's Christmas appeal and gave the charity's Nigerian worker Dasu his first experience of snow!

It was a week of many ‘firsts’ for Dasu Yakubu who travelled outside Nigeria for the first time this week.

On Saturday evening Dasu was the guest of honour at a gospel concert held at Norwich Central Baptist Church with the Happy Day Gospel Choir and Dumisani Drumming Group.

There was much singing, drumming and dancing as members of the audience joined in.  Held on the coldest night of this winter so far the concert raised over £1,000 for the Christian Aid Christmas Appeal  (including match funding) which is about raising awareness and funds for malaria prevention in Nigeria.

Dasu [pictured below] works for the social care arm of the Anglican Church in Nigeria to reduce the 250,000 deaths of children under 5 every year. He also seeks to bring peace between Muslims and Christians as he does his work. Christian Aid supports this work.

Julian Bryant, Regional Co-ordinator for Christian Aid said, ‘It was an amazing evening with lots of great music and African dancing – it was a thrilling time. And of course it was wonderful to have Dasu who speaks from first-hand experience. It is an honour for us to support the malaria work that he and his organisation are doing. Some of the stories were both heart-breaking and yet full of hope. And it was great to see Dasu experiencing snow for the first time as we walked out of the concert. Christmas is coming!’
