Orthodox bishop visits tiny Broadland chapel

2016: A tiny, hidden-away Orthodox chapel in Sutton on the Norfolk Broads has celebrated a second unusual event in less than a fortnight, with the visit of its first bishop.

His eminence Metropolitan Silouan called in at St Fursey’s in Sutton, near Stalham, as part of a tour of his new parishes. He is the first bishop of the recently-created Antiochian Orthodox christian archdiocese of the British Isles and Ireland.

During the bishop’s visit Father Weston was helped by the Rev Father Deacon Paulinus. After the service Bishop Silouan blessed the small congregation.
Father Weston said afterwards: “To receive our bishop is a wonderful honour. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and we look forward to a return visit.”
The VIP visit followed St Fursey’s first wedding last month, conducted by Father Stephen. For more about the wedding, click here.
