Church’s 'Love Norwich' hamper appeal expands

Local community group ‘Love Norwich’ founded by Proclaimers Church are collecting and distributing luxury Christmas Hampers to people in need across the city and this year the work will expand to other locations.

Every year ‘Love Norwich’, a group founded by Norwich church ‘Proclaimers’, work with local business, schools and members of the public to collect items that go into making a quality hamper containing everything a family needs for Christmas day lunch.

The hampers contain mince pies, Christmas puddings, jars of cranberry sauce, to name just a few items, even crackers for the table plus a meat voucher so recipients can purchase perishable items.

The hampers are distributed to some of those most in need in the city through partner and support organisations and charities. In 2015 over 180 hampers were distributed.  In recent weeks donations have been coming in from business and schools including a financial gift of £180 from a harvest festival held at Catton Grove Primary School.

Ali Marlow, Project Coordinator said: “It’s sad that we receive so many requests from our partners every year because it reflects how many people are struggling with the most basic needs like food for their children but at the same time we are thrilled that so many people have responded for our plea for help and have got on board with donations. Whether people have been able to provide just one Christmas pudding, or a complete hampers worth of food, it really does all help us in meeting the needs in our city”.

This year the group are expanding their places of work by running the same appeal in other locations where they have a Proclaimers church. In Ipswich they are on target to distribute 50 hampers to families in need and their newest church in Bratislava, Slovakia, is also seeing a great response to the appeal there.

“There is still time for people to get onboard with this year's campaign” comments Ali, “We really need more shop purchased Christmas cakes and tins of chocolates. Alternatively we are asking people if they would like to give financially towards the meat vouchers”.

If you, your family or your business can support Love Norwich’s biggest ever Christmas Hamper appeal, please send cheques made payable c/o Proclaimers and send to The Space, Roundtree Way, Norwich, NR7 8SQ. Or visit and select ‘Hamper Appeal – Love Norwich’.
