Thorpe Market snowdrops 640CF

Thorpe Market church shows off its snowdrops

2018: St Margaret’s Church in Thorpe Market will, once again, be hosting its popular “Snowdrop Sundays” throughout February, including art and photography exhibitions.

Thorpe Market churchyard in rural North Norfolk is now a mecca for visitors both local, national and international. In 2017 over the four weekends in February the snowdrops attracted over 1000 visitors, including a coach load of Dutch visitors, who came, saw and experienced the welcoming signs of spring and the warm embrace of those who volunteer at the church to support the event.

Thorpe Market cakes 600CFAs with last year, this year the church will also host 4 local artists, each exhibiting their work so that returning visitors will see new work on the walls, all of which will be on sale. In addition, the owners of 'Love My Garden’, which is based at Groveland, in Roughton will have a presence over the 4 weekends in the churchyard, selling a selection of their plants.

There will also be a photography exhibition, with the Wells Amateur Photography group exhibiting on February 4, 18 and 25, and a group of 9 different local photographers from North and West Norfolk displaying their work, including abstracts, architecture, fauna, flora and landscapes, on February 11.

Thorpe Market’s famous spread of afternoon tea, coffee and cakes will also be available. There will be a bookstall and, at times, there will be live music in the church.

Dr. Katayoun Dowlatshahi, from the church, said “It will not be long before the snowdrops will be gracing our gardens, woodlands and wild places and giving us immense pleasure in the latter stages of winter, signalling the renewal of spring and warmer times to come.  We are therefore looking forward to four sun-drenched weekends, having tea and cake amongst our beautiful native snowdrops and the more exotic arrivals. In addition, our homemade cakes have been so much in demand that we produced our own collection of recipes for sale, all in aid of the church funds.”

Snow Drop Sundays will run from 12 noon to 4pm on February 4, 11, 18, and 25, at St Margarets church, Church Road, Thorpe Market, NR11 8UA. Admission is free.

Large groups should get in touch before the event to give notice of numbers and dates to ensure enough cakes are available!
