Thorpe Market church reaches out with art and flowers

St Margaret's church in Thorpe Market continues to open its doors to the community with two art exhibitions and an open invitation to visit the award-winning churchyard.

St Margaret’s Church will once again be hosting a varied art exhibition and sale of work by three local artists from Friday May 4 to Monday May 7. Rosalie Osborne Gibb will be exhibiting a diverse range of subjects, depicting her love of the coast and countryside. Signed limited edition prints, plus gifts and a wide range of greetings cards featuring Rosalie’s artwork will also be available. The exhibition will also feature a range of handmade kiln-fired glass items by Terrie, ranging from beautiful Murano glass pendants to seaside sun catchers, gifts and decorative items, and a unique collection of reclaimed oak items, including clocks and lamp bases, made by Ian Clifft.  The artists will be in attendance throughout the exhibition.
Mike Waters, a renowned local artist who has exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists will be holding an exhibition in the church over the Spring bank holiday weekend from May 26 to 28.  Mike was born in Melton Constable and has been painting coastal views and landscapes in watercolours and oils since 1991.  High quality reproductions of some of his best-known images in a variety of formats will be on sale.

The churchyard is renowned in conservation circles for the great diversity of its plant-life and has recovered from winter, with primroses, bluebells, violets of different hues and a sea of comfrey in the Hazel Grove. The resident bees are becoming active, the Bug Hotel is open for business and refugee hedgehogs are returning. Norfolk Wildlife Trust will be on hand with activities for all ages, including Churchyard Bioblitz and Wildlife Quiz Trail and Bat-making.
All events are open daily 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. There will be a good selection of used books, teas, coffees and delicious homemade cakes and the wildflower conservation churchyard is always open.  Entry is free, with disabled access and free parking opposite the church.
