South Norfolk church wants nominations for free gifts

A South Norfolk church is asking for nominations for people in the community who may appreciate a lovely surprise gift this Christmas.

Hope Church, which meets in Diss and Harleston, is running a Love Gives campaign this festive season for the second year running, with the simple aim of blessing those in the area who most need it.
Anyone can nominate a friend, family member or someone else they feel is really deserving of a special gift this Christmas. They may have been through a tough time emotionally or physically or simply find this time of year difficult; all the church needs to know is that they have been nominated for a valid reason and they could be the recipient of a lovely surprise.
Church Leader, Graham Blake, said: “We ran this initiative for the first time last year and we were overwhelmed at the response, both from those receiving the gifts but also those who wanted to help us by nominating deserving individuals. People were so keen to nominate and give funding and those receiving the gifts were absolutely over the moon. I remember one person saying they couldn’t believe someone had thought of them, and another person said it had made their Christmas, which just made it all worthwhile.”
Last year’s gifts included food hampers, toys and vouchers for restaurants or days out, and nominations included a family facing the loss of a loved one, a young child who had spent weeks in hospital and someone battling depression and anxiety after a relationship breakdown.
All nominations are anonymous and confidential. Nominations will be taken until November 30 and gifts will be delivered between December 21 and 23. People can also choose to donate funds to enable the church to bless even more people with gifts this year.

“Christmas is obviously a very special time of year for us as Christians,” said Graham, “but we know it can be a really difficult and lonely time for some people in our communities. We want to show those people that they are loved and valued and we hope that this year Love Gives will be a real blessing to those who most need it.”

Do you appreciate our service and stories?

The Network Norwich & Norfolk website has been published for over 13 years now and we have an established team of professional journalists covering the activities, organisations and churches which make up the county’s Christian community. Our whole purpose is to support that community by daily providing accurate, unbiased stories and features.

To pay for that service, we rely on our partner organisations, advertisers and readers to, in turn, support us financially. We want to keep the website free for everyone to access and continue to be able to pay for writers to produce the content you can enjoy every day.

We would like to ask you to consider supporting our work and suggest you might want to make a small regular donation of just £1 a week and become one of our 100 Friends, or a larger one-off or annual amount.

Because we are part of a registered charity we can reclaim Gift Aid on your donations if you are a tax-payer.
