Norwich training equips Christians to share their faith
Norwich Cathedral is holding special training days to help empower members of churches across the county to be more confident in speaking about their faith.
The training sessions – which are open to all Christian denominations - are linked to the Cathedral’s Seeing It Differently project which this August will see a helter skelter installed in the Nave to encourage people to experience the Cathedral in a new and unusual way.
Ahead of this, the training days will offer people the chance to explore their understanding of mission and to develop skills in sharing their faith.
Those attending the courses will then have the opportunity to put their learning into practice by volunteering to play a part in Seeing it Differently, the Cathedral’s summer missional event which will run from 8 to 18 August.
The Revd Canon Andy Bryant, Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care at Norwich Cathedral, said: “We want to raise up a group of people from churches across Norfolk who are more confident in speaking about how Jesus helps them see life differently. When opportunities occur to speak about our faith we need to be ready to make the most of such moments.”
He said news of the Seeing it Differently project had created much excitement, and that behind the playful idea of the helter skelter was the serious opportunity to encourage more conversations with visitors about Christianity.
The key to the success of the project will be the team of Seeing It Differently volunteers who will be on hand to discuss faith with any visitor who is inspired to start a God-focused conversation.
The Revd Canon Andy Bryant added: “Norwich Cathedral would love to hear from members of churches from across the county who would like to share in the special training and then use their newfound confidence in volunteering for Seeing It Differently.
“The Cathedral hopes those volunteering to be part of this exciting adventure will return home enabled and empowered to support the ministry and mission in their own churches.
“It is also hoped that, by sharing in this innovative event at the Cathedral, people will be encouraged to explore more creative and imaginative ways of making opportunities to talk about their faith in their own communities.”
