Will you pray for the Norwich Passion Play?
Celebrate Norfolk is planning to stage a Passion Play in Norwich city centre in September 2021 or Easter 2022, including professional Christian theatre company Saltmine, and has issued a call for intercessors to support the initiative, writes Rev Canon Madeline Light.
Celebrate is organising a Passion Play to be performed by drama company Saltmine in Norwich city centre in either September 2021 or Easter 2022, after the Easter 2021 date was postponed due to Covid-19.
We have raised a good amount of finances to help cover an Easter production but a September date would be more expensive for Saltmine rehearsal costs.
We have other avenues to raise money but the critical criteria is whether the ministers in the city will get behind a September play. Considering a Passion Play not at Easter is only feasible because so much is strange this year. The trustees will decide at the end of February, based on wider feedback and financial support promised.
Please pray that at the Transforming Norwich meeting on February 3, we will get an accurate picture of the support from churches for either date. There is no point in having the production in the streets if churches do not participate and engage with the public on the day.
We need more people to pray as we find our way through the multiple issues of location, funding, rehearsals, technology, advertising, participation and also the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
Will you join us in praying for this event or is there someone in your church who oversees prayer?
Please pass this request on to them and ask them to contact our administrator, Elizabeth Davey firstname.lastname@example.org to join our prayer list.
Please pray for wisdom as we consider dates in September 2021 or Easter 2022. We hope to make the decision in February. We need to know clearly what to do.
Please thank God for the meeting with the CEO of Saltmine and a number of church leaders this week. Please pray that the vision for this Passion Play will be caught by many churches.
Please continue to pray for new opportunities to apply for grants.
Thank you very much for your help and support.
