Norwich choir appeals for new singers to join
A Norwich-based choir, which raises money to support Norfolk churches and other charities, is appealing for new members as it plans to restart rehearsals from early September.
Chairman Mike Wood said: “Until Covid interrupted, we performed summer and Christmas concerts primarily for Norfolk churches to assist with their fund raising. We are hoping to resume on September 6 and circumstances have reduced our numbers, not significantly but sufficient to compromise balance. We are looking to welcome new members across all four voice parts of the choir. In particular we would welcome interest from basses and tenors.
“We are a friendly, mixed choir of just over 30 voices, based in Norwich. We sing both a cappella and accompanied works. These range from the 16th century to the present day; from motets and madrigals to modern musical theatre; from the traditional baroque and longer classical choral works to the folk idiom; from the highly serious to the seriously humorous. We hope there is always something in the programme that everyone will like!
“We give regular concerts and recitals throughout Norfolk, upon invitation. We are always delighted to assist in raising funds for charitable purposes and on occasions such as anniversaries and restoration appeals,” said Mike.
Members of the choir are drawn from a wide area surrounding Norwich and it rehearses each Monday evening (with a summer break) from 7.30pm – 9.30pm at United Reformed Church, Ipswich Road, Norwich NR4 6QR.
The first term of membership is free so why not go along, join in and give the Anglian Singers a try. If you are interested please email Music Director, John Barham, at firstname.lastname@example.org
