Holt charity holds prayer meetings for Malawi

North Norfolk charity Aid Africa tells of a new toilet in Malawi, and invites everyone to a monthly on-line prayer meeting to pray for their work in that country. Tony Rothe reports.

Aid Africa is based in Holt in North Norfolk, and operates a charity shop on Shirehall Plain in the town. Their work is based in Malawi in Africa, where they support communities in poverty by building water pumps, planting Moringa groves, providing goats, supporting schooling, distributing grain and much more.
Dave & Lynda Mills, who founded the charity, share the tale of a toilet …..
“Memory is a lady in her 40’s, blind and AIDS-affected.  Back in 2018 we built her a small house near her elderly mother, her main carer, who is also disabled. Following the devastating cyclone the following year, we added a toilet as one of the national award-winning 60 we replaced at that time, in the aftermath of the storms.
“However, during the subsequent years, many local people, with little alternative to open fields when their own units collapsed, used the toilet too, so the simple structure, only designed for a single lady, was damaged, and the pit nearly filled.
“So to meet the challenge we constructed a sturdy brick-built public facility, with two doored compartments—one a “long-drop” toilet, and the other a washroom—under a secure metal roof.

The pit beneath is extra-deep — 4m, and 2m wide — dug by hand, and brick-lined for stability and safety.  Memory’s family are proud to provide the water, cleaning, and oversight, and caring for it gives Memory a valuable task in the community”.
This is just one of many projects that Aid Africa supports. Despite Covid and all other challenges, they  continue to impact the vulnerable rural communities in Malawi - one life at a time.
They hold a prayer meeting at 6.30pm on the first Sunday of each month to share progress and pray for even more! It's been going on for many years, but because Covid, it has needed to become remote, and not restricted to one venue - with supporters praying individually or in groups, from the comfort of their own sofas.
“We'd just like to extend the invitation to you to join us, either for that allotted time on a Sunday evening, or any opportunity you have to bring the work before the Lord” said Lynda.
